Case recently sat down with members of First Presbyterian Church of Orlando who live at the Westminster Tower independent living residence and asked about their hope's for tomorrow's culture. Here's their top 5:1. Churches serve as a counter cultural compass, communities whose moral imagination runs on different coordinates from the surrounding “moral collapse.”2. Intergenerational friendship becomes ordinary, so that a 16-year-old son can meet the missionary midwife who once prayed his mother through postpartum hemorrhaging.3. The gospel is judged by its fruits rather than its labels, freeing believers to link arms with any who cling to Christ, whether Baptist, Catholic, or non-denominational (which we all know are really Baptists in skinny jeans).4. Young adults make decisions from conviction rather than uncertainty, heeding the elder’s wisdom: “Make no major decisions when you’re in a state of uncertainty.”5. The church stays outward-facing, measuring growth not only by nursery head-counts but by how often its members are “sent out” across cultures and zip codes.What hopes do you share? Thorp: At The Collaborative we believe in the arts, artists, and the use of their gifts to serve our Lord and His people. To that end, I just concluded a pilgrimage (purposeful travel infused with spiritual formation and theological discernment) to Memphis, TN. Flower Ministry artists from five churches and three cities met up at 2nd Presbyterian Church for a great morning of breakfast, a workshop with social media influencer and designer John Mark Sharpe, and idea sharing exercises. Not only did he speak deeply of his faith in Jesus, but also of his work as an offering until Him. The Problem

American society is secularizing at a rapid pace, and her Christian foundation is fading
Faithful Christians in professional vocations are hungry to see American society flourish
The church struggles to prepare her members for effectiveness in the public square, notably at work, in industry/sectors, and civic life
Efforts to pursue the common good are in short supply

Our Approach

The Collaborative, founded in 2013 as the faith and work ministry of First Presbyterian Church of Orlando, was incorporated and endorsed by the church leadership in 2023 to broaden its focus to cultural renewal and reach further audiences.

Dr. Case Thorp, founder and principal, shifted at the time in his duties as Senior Associate Pastor at the church to Theologian in Residence to provide the capacity to see the work of The Collaborative expand.
