Vocational Guilds

Guilds are a means of helping individuals identify with their calling rather than their profession. Our understanding helps us establish a spiritual identity connected to God, not create action or work in order to connect to God. Through Guilds, we establish a new vision for our profession, a view beyond our paycheck or status, which includes defining a new standard of how to work through ethical and best practices.

What is the Collaborative?

The Collaborative provides discipleship resources and experiences for Christ-centered professionals in the public square.

Culture is all around us, and Christians leaders in various societal sectors have the opportunity to serve the common good. Are we?

Work leads to blessing; blessing of others for the life of the world.

How We Do This

Asset 13

We Equip

Christ followers for their workplace, marketplace, government, and the arts with a Biblical vision for the common good.

Asset 11

We Connect

leaders within the marketplace, across industries, government, non-profits and more to address complex social problems.

Asset 12

We Mobilize

agents of change through courageous conversations, measurable action, and viable cross sector solutions.

The Problem

  • American society is secularizing at a rapid pace, and her Christian foundation is fading
  • Faithful Christians in professional vocations are hungry to see American society flourish
  • The church struggles to prepare her members for effectiveness in the public square, notably at work, in industry/sectors, and civic life
  • Efforts to pursue the common good are in short supply

Our Approach

The Collaborative, founded in 2013 as the faith and work ministry of First Presbyterian Church of Orlando, was incorporated and endorsed by the church leadership in 2023 to broaden its focus to cultural renewal and reach further audiences.

Dr. Case Thorp, founder and principal, shifted at the time in his duties as Senior Associate Pastor at the church to Theologian in Residence to provide the capacity to see the work of The Collaborative expand.

“The Collaborative is a truly unique offering on the Metro Orlando philanthropic scene as the most comprehensive and focused faith and work initiative in the area. It is a welcome addition to our maturing philanthropic sector that is moving beyond short-term relief to leveraged investment that moves the needle on our most pressing social issues. With its strategic attention on regionally influential and aspiring leaders, The Collaborative is well-positioned to be a leading force for good in our community for years to come.”

- PHIL HISSOM, FOUNDER AND FORMER CEO OF THE POLIS INSTITUTE
